Born in the Midwest and currently residing in
Dallas, TX, W. Michael Frye has an unabashed
love and respect for the natural world. This
affection is clearly evident in his work. “In the
entire world, I can think of nothing as exciting,
varied and beautiful as the creatures around
us.” he says. “I’ve done a little of everything
over the years, but have always returned to the
animals. As the earth continues to lose precious
species, it becomes increasingly important for us
to recognize before it’s too late, that it’s up to
humans to care for the other inhabitants of our
planet. If artists can build an awareness and
appreciation for these creatures by capturing a
little of their beauty on canvas or paper, then
it’s a win-win situation.”

His technique is understated and simple; using
mostly pastels and colored pencils, he attempts
to capture some small essence of his subject
through posture, composition and lighting. All
these elements are unified through a palette
that is intentionally restrained.

After attending college in Austin, TX and
Cleveland, Ohio, Michael returned to the Lone
Star state where, in addition to his artistic
endeavors, he is a successful Art Director and
Designer.
