María Torróntegui was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1965. She studied painting in Paris, at the Decorative Painting School IPEDEC, where she specialized in “trompe l’oeil,” a French term literally meaning "trick the eye" - a style of painting which gives the appearance of three-dimensional, or photographic realism. Once established in Barcelona, María founded her own mural and decorative painting school. She now paints with oils exclusively.
Torróntegui’s predominantly paints bodegones - still life subjects that include foods and their containers and which may be a part of a kitchen or eating scene. Flowers and landscapes, featuring an accurate poetic realism, are also favorite subjects of this artist. Through her outstanding use of light and color, María Torróntegui captures great depth of emotion in her oil paintings.
María has been exhibited in Barcelona, Madrid and other Spanish cities, receiving accolades for the intimate and poetic feeling expressed in her paintings.
