Cape Edwin
Bio of Artist

Cape Edwin was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1968. He lived in southern Arizona with his family until he attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where he received a degree in Fine Arts.

During his summer breaks from college, Cape worked in Sedona, Arizona at a local resort, where he found inspiration from the red rock mountains as he hiked in the surrounding areas. Many of these warm, natural colors can still be seen in his paintings today.

After graduating from college, Cape moved to Portland, Oregon for several years, but decided to return to Sedona, where he felt he was most inspired to paint. Cape paints primarily abstracts using the acrylic medium. He then applies a high-gloss finish to bring out the rich texture and colors that make his paintings so popular.

Even though Cape’s paintings are not composed of obviously southwest images, he remembers every red desert rock that has inspired the imagery, composition and color in each of his paintings. Sedona is also well known for its four vortexes, where Earth’s unseen lines of power allegedly intersect to form a field of energy. In many of his pieces, Cape strives to capture the emotion of this energy bouncing off the colors of the rocky landscape.

Says the artist, “Most people look at my paintings and see one thing or another, but few people know the truth behind my paintings. But, then again, I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be. Everyone should see what they want to see in a painting. That’s what makes art so interesting.”

Cape’s work has grown in popularity over the past two years, and now is shown in several galleries across the country.
